MATRIJARŠIJA
Frontrunners of Belgrade’s independent graphic alt-scene
Matrijaršija is a living organism that has been expanding from Belgrade’s underground for over a decade – an artistic collective, autonomous cultural centre, production network, and open space for free, untamed artistic expression. At the core of their work lie printing and publishing, particularly screen printing and risograph techniques, which they approach as collective, exploratory, and distinctly experimental artistic practices. Under the umbrella of Matrijaršija, they run the legendary independent comics festival Novo Doba and the independent publishing fair Fijuk, alongside organising exhibitions, workshops, concerts, and other events. Matrijaršija brings the spirit of Belgrade’s alt-scene to Ljubljana: direct, playful, subversive, and committed to free artistic production.
They will present their work at Kino Šiška through an exhibition in the Kamera Gallery, showcasing their diverse graphic and print output, while also participating in Tinta’s Saturday comics fair.
