EDMOND BAUDOIN

A master of expressive drawing, virtuously sketching intimate narratives

Edmond Baudoin (1942) is considered one of the giants of original European comics. A French artist, illustrator, and comic creator who has been working in a distinctive, expressive black-and-white style since the early 1980s, he has established himself as a “virtuoso illustrator with a brush”. He has created an extensive body of work, earning numerous accolades – among others, he has received awards at the Angoulême International Comics Festival for his comics Couma acò, Le voyage, and Les quatre fleuves.

Baudoin is regarded as one of the pioneers of autobiographical comics and frequently collaborates with various writers. Based on the novel by acclaimed Romanian author Mircea Cărtărescu, he created the graphic novel Travesti, which was published in Slovenian translation by LUD Literatura last year, expertly weaving the literary source material with his own personal story.
