ATAK (1967) is a prominent German visual artist, a true artistic multi-talent, who has playfully crossed the boundaries between different media from the very beginning of his creative journey. Throughout his career, he has remained faithful to his own author’s poetics and lively eclecticism, in which endless influences and references from the world of comics, visual art, film, literature and elsewhere intersect. In 1989, he co-founded the avant-garde comics group and magazine Renate in Berlin. In the 1990s, he published several independent comics publications, and today he is active mainly in the field of illustration. He is also an avid researcher and collector of a wide variety of material, ranging from original comics to “fan art” and folk art.

ATAK’s exhibition at the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum will present the versatility and breadth of his perception of art and will be dedicated to two cult comic book heroes, Dick Tracy and Tintin, who probably do not need to be introduced in detail to fans of the Ninth Art. We’re also looking forward to his guided tour of the exhibition.

The exhibition presents an eclectic mix of original works, archival material and fan art – a diverse collection of works created by Tintin and Dick Tracy fans around the world. A large number of ATAK’s adaptations of famous comics stories and publication covers will be on display, as well as Chester Gould’s originals from ATAK’s personal collection.

The exhibition thus offers a new reading of comic book classics and enables a fresh reliving of the adventures of the famous heroes. Indirectly, it also addresses the phenomenon of collectors and the question of identification with the phenomena of popular culture.

The day after the opening, there will also be a guided tour of the exhibition with the author, where you will be able to learn details about his creative work and the exhibition.
