KUTIKUTI
Independent comics between nature and experiment
Kutikuti is a platform that connects and co-creates the independent Finnish comics scene. Bringing together over 60 Finnish comic creators, it has been promoting the development of comics as an independent art form since 2005, organising exhibitions and other events, and publishing the free comics magazine Kuti. Their work frequently explores contemporary environmental and social issues, ranging from climate change and humanity’s relationship with nature to feminist and queer themes, approaching comics as a space for critical thinking, building connections, and offering new perspectives.
Kutikuti is steadily expanding its international network of friendships and alliances, which often gives rise to new collaborations. This time, it has joined forces with the Slovenian comics magazine Stripburger.
At Tinta, Kutikuti presents a group exhibition that connects the Slovenian and Finnish comics scenes and explores their relationship with nature, with an emphasis on experimental voices and works across various media. To mark the occasion, two fresh magazine issues will be released: Stripburger offers insight into Finnish comics, while Kuti highlights Slovenian comic creativity. Kutikuti will also hold a playful and unconventional workshop at the festival, where you will create comics that might not even be comics at all!
