Tackling everyday absurdity with humor

Nadine Redlich (1984) is considered one of the most original authors on the contemporary German comics scene. Her distinctive visual style combines minimalist drawing, bold and saturated colors, and absurd humor, exploring the narrative possibilities of comics and the subtle shifts in how we experience the world. In her work, she approaches themes such as inner doubts, everyday absurdities, and human vulnerability with a characteristic dose of irony and playfulness – even if the protagonists are not humans but stones or eggs. Her visually refined narratives often reveal far more than meets the eye.

Redlich publishes illustrations in prominent media outlets such as The New York Times, Die Zeit, and Le Monde, while her graphic novels are published by the renowned independent German publisher Rotopol. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including the prestigious German Sondermann Award (2023) for outstanding achievements in comic art.

At Tinta, she will present a solo exhibition at Alkatraz Gallery, accompanying the publication of the Slovenian translation of her comic Stones by Stripburger. She will also unpack her creative process during a masterclass at Saturday’s comics fair at Kino Šiška, where she will also be signing books.
