Finnish comics artist Sanna Hukkanen and cultural anthropologist Inkeri Aula will talk about their comic book In the Shelter of Trees (V zavetju dreves, Aristej, 2023). In the comic book, the authors collected folk customs, history, and mythology related to the forest and the most common trees in Finland. Each of the eight comics tells the story of one tree, intertwined with personal fates, mythological lore, and contemporary environmental issues. Awareness of the vital importance of forest diversity is our shared global cultural heritage.

The presentation will be held in English and is part of the international conference Remix Comix: Comics and Community.
